The Documentation Center of Cambodia Forensic Project
"The Documentation Center of Cambodia Forensic Project" was an effort launched in 2001 to examine supposed forensic evidence in preparation for trials at the ECCC. The study examined mass graves and memorial sites across Cambodia, but the forensic findings do not fit the widely promoted narrative of mass executions. At Ampe Phnom, out of 100 skulls examined, only one had a visible incised wound, and only 13 long bones showed signs of sharp force trauma. At Phnom Udong, researchers found two skulls with gunshot wounds, but noted that most of the remains showed significant postmortem damage, making it difficult to determine the cause of death. The study ultimately confirms that no mass graves in Cambodia have ever been scientifically excavated, raising serious questions about the reliability of previous claims of executions.
